Cheltenham Day 4: Gold Cup Friday Value Tips & bet365 Strategy
The final day of the 2026 Cheltenham Festival is here. After a dramatic “St. Patrick’s Thursday” that saw the odds-on banker Fact To File withdrawn last minute and favorites like Bambino Fever overturned, Gold Cup Friday is officially a “Value Hunter’s” playground.
The ground is currently Good, Good to Soft (in places). Keep an ear out for the trainer’s comments: Willie Mullins has been vocal about the track being “too dry,” which could be a massive red flag for some of his heavy-hitters and a green light for the spring-heeled gallopers.
🐎 The Day 4 Value Selections
13:20 – JCB Triumph Hurdle (Grade 1)
- The Selection: Macho Man
- Current Odds: 9/1 (Each Way)
- Reasoning: While his stablemate Proactif is the “talking horse,” Macho Man was arguably the more eye-catching on his Irish debut. He was green as grass that day and still stayed on strongly. On this quicker ground, his flat-speed pedigree will be a massive asset coming up the hill.
14:00 – County Handicap Hurdle (Premier Handicap)
- The Selection: Workahead
- Current Odds: 12/1 (Each Way)
- Reasoning: This is a classic “hidden” horse. He’s been running in races that didn’t suit his style all winter to protect his handicap mark. He thrives in a high-intensity, big-field scenario. With bet365 paying 7 or 8 places on this race, he is a fantastic E/W “insurance” bet.
14:40 – Mrs Paddy Power Mares’ Chase (Grade 2)
- The Selection: Panic Attack
- Current Odds: 9/1 (Each Way)
- Reasoning: Dan Skelton has “turned this mare inside out” this season. While the favorite Dinoblue (2/1) has the class, she has looked vulnerable over this trip when the ground dries out. Panic Attack is a relentless jumper; if she’s within two lengths at the last, she’ll out-stay the favorites.
15:20 – Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle (Grade 1)
- The Selection: Spinningayarn
- Current Odds: 12/1 (Each Way)
- Reasoning: This race is usually a “staying slog,” but on Good to Soft ground, you need a horse that can travel. Spinningayarn has won his last two by a combined 15 lengths and looks like a Grade 1 animal masquerading as a 12/1 shot.
16:00 – Boodles Cheltenham Gold Cup (Grade 1)
- The Selection: Haiti Couleurs
- Current Odds: 8/1 (Each Way)
- Reasoning: With Galopin Des Champs absent this year, this is the most open Gold Cup in a decade. Haiti Couleurs is 6-for-8 over fences and is the ultimate “professional.” He doesn’t waste an inch of energy over his jumps.
- The Danger: Jango Baie (4/1) is the class alternative, but Haiti Couleurs has the physical “bottom” to grind out a Gold Cup finish.
17:20 – Martin Pipe Handicap Hurdle
- The Selection: Karbau
- Current Odds: 4/1 (WIN)
- Reasoning: Take the hint: Paul Townend has stayed on for this ride. He rarely rides in the handicaps at this meeting unless he thinks he’s on a “certainty.” It’s the last race of the week—don’t overthink it.
📲 bet365: How to Maximize Your Friday Returns
| Feature | Your Gold Cup Day Action Plan |
| Super Boost (10 AM) | Check the app for a boost on Gaelic Warrior or Proactif. These are usually “No Brainer” bets to build your bankroll for the afternoon. |
| Each Way Extra | For the County Hurdle (14:00) and Martin Pipe (17:20), use the slider to get 8 places. In 24-runner fields, this is the only way to play. |
| Price Promise | bet365 matches all major bookmakers for ITV races. If you see a 14/1 elsewhere for Spinningayarn, you’ll get it here. |
| Best Odds Guaranteed | Take the price now. If Haiti Couleurs drifts to 12/1 before the off, bet365 will pay you at the higher odds. |
📈 The “Gold Cup Friday” Value Lucky 15
A £0.50 Each Way Lucky 15 (£15 total stake) could return over £4,500.
13:20: Macho Man (9/1)
14:00: Workahead (12/1)
14:40: Panic Attack (9/1)
16:00: Haiti Couleurs (8/1)
Each of these selections is based on a combination of factors such as recent form, pedigree, suitability to the race conditions, and the trainer’s confidence in the horses. Of course, while these factors make these selections strong contenders, horse racing can be unpredictable, so always bet responsibly!
